Spend the early afternoon exploring the Forest and searching for as many different species of butterflies as you can find.

Join biodiversity team member Sam for a walk around Morgrove Coppice and Spernal Park and hear first-hand about the work being done to support butterfly habitats and how that results in such a wide range of species flourishing in the Forest.

July is an excellent time of year for woodland butterflies and along with sightings of ringlet, marbled white and small skipper we can hope to see fighting male purple emperors, the impressively-orange silver-washed fritillary and hopefully at least one of the arboreal hairstreaks.

This is a casual walk and talk for all the family with plenty of stopping to observe and ask questions. Sensible footwear for woodland walking is required – no summer sandals. Dress for the weather and don’t forget your sunblock, bottle of water and your butterfly spotting guide. Bring binoculars if you have them, to help spot the treetop species.

Tickets are £5 (+ booking fee), with the option to make a donation to help grow the Forest by choosing a charity ticket. Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs on leads are welcome.
