Celebrate Insect Week 2023: A Week Dedicated to the Fascinating World of Insects

Insect Week, the Royal Entomological Society’s annual celebration of insects, returns from 19th to 25th June 2023. This exciting week aims to encourage people of all ages to learn more about insects and appreciate their importance as the little things that run the world. Insect Week 2023 promises a host of engaging activities and events for everyone to enjoy.

Organised by the Royal Entomological Society in collaboration with numerous partner organisations, Insect Week highlights the science, natural history, and conservation of insects. It aims to showcase the vital role that insects play in various aspects of our lives, including conservation, food production, medicine, and ecology.

Insects are incredibly diverse, with over one million species described and named worldwide. In the UK alone, there are more than 24,000 species, and they can be found in almost every habitat. Insects serve as pollinators, predators, pests, parasites, and prey, making their study crucial for understanding and protecting natural world.

“We are thrilled to announce the return of Insect Week, a fantastic opportunity for people to delve into the extraordinary world of insects.

Through engaging events, competitions, and educational resources, we aim to increase awareness and appreciation for these remarkable animals. Insect Week is a celebration of the invaluable contributions insects make to our lives and the urgent need to protect their habitats and diversity.”

Prof. Jane Hill, President of the Royal Entomological Society.
