The 2022 Great Bug Hunt competition for primary schools received over 1000 entries, and the The Royal Entomological Society and the Association for Science Education are excited to announce the results.
School groups visited a habitat, produced a project about the different invertebrates they found, including bar charts, drawings, fact sheets, poems and stories.
Well done to the winners Ysgol yr Esgob in Caerwys, Mold, who also won the Years 3 & 4 (ages 8-9) category. The school received a visit from Rebeca Dixon-Whatmough (ASE) and Francisca Sconce (RES) as their winning prize. This included a session about insects and other arthropods, and the opportunity to handle some live insects including Madagascar hissing cockroaches and leaf insects.
The winners of the other groups are:
- Reception – Manor Road Primary School, Chorley
- Years 1 & 2 – Thameside Primary School, Grays
- Years 5 & 6 – Wickham Market Primary School, Woodbridge
They each received a book from the RES and all the children who entered received a certificate.
